Under immediate supervision of the Clinic Manager and nursing supervision of the Head Nurse, the Float Medical Assistant/LPN/RN performs routine clinic duties associated with a reproductive health program within the scope of their training. Provides excellent customer service. Performs related work as directed. MA/LPN/RNs are advocates in implementing our mission of “Affirming the human right to reproductive health and freedom” Perform other related duties as assigned. Responsibilities Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Interview and screen patients, conduct patient history review, prepare patients for examinations/procedures. Monitor patient vital signs. • Perform routine laboratory tests including venipuncture. Communicate lab test results to clinician. • Process receipt of incoming lab results. • Set up exam rooms and prepare patients for clinician or physician visits • Provide factual patient education. Provide additional education after clinician or RN assessment. Including explanations of all FDA approved birth control methods. Provide unbiased specific instruction on the client’s selected birth control method. • Assist clinician as needed. • With on-site RN/Clinician/Physician supervision administer injections, contraceptive supplies, emergency medications, and treatment medications as ordered by clinician or physician. • Assure inventory control of clinic and contraceptive supplies including ordering, stocking, inventory reconciliation and tracking. • Communicate PPNCS protocols, policy and procedures to clinicians and staff as appropriate. Assure clinic manuals are up-to-date (e.g., clinic, lab, safety, SMP). • Provide factual, unbiased information to clients seeking abortion. • Describe the difference between medication and surgical abortion.
• Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the patients’ needs. • Follow all laws regarding mandatory reporting. Additional essential functions for Medical Assistants/Licensed Practical Nurses working at a surgical site: • As appropriate assist the physician with surgical procedures, monitor patient stability and perform macroscopic exam of tissue post-surgery. • Supervise and observe patients post procedure recovery • Comply with all laws governing services Work Hours: Full-time 32-35 hours/week. Shifts will vary from 7:45am–8:30pm, Monday through Friday. Includes every third weekend 7:45am-6:30pm.

Job Requirements:

~Commitment/Requirements Scheduling and hours commitments will depend on FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) or regular scheduled hours of the particular float position. There is the option to work above the scheduled FTE if extra hours are available. The Regular Float would be assigned clinic hours within the state of Minnesota and travel is an expectation of this role. The estimated amount of travel outside of the Twin Cities is 30% annually. Hours commitments will be met on a pay period basis, for example a 0.5 FTE or 20 hour per week employee will be paid a minimum of 40 hours per biweekly pay period, provided that the above scheduling availability criteria are met. If clinic shifts are unavailable then other projects may be assigned at any of the clinics in the state of Minnesota, RN triage, or remote work such as patient follow up, chart purges, data entry, or audit work. Requirements Required Qualifications • High School diploma or equivalent • Current CPR certification • Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) -OR- • Current LPN license
Preferred Qualifications • Reproductive health experience • Experience working with high risk and/or diverse populations • Bilingual language skills (Spanish, Hmong, and Somali preferred) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Ability to work with patients from diverse backgrounds and create a positive environment that demonstrates PPNCS’ commitment to diversity • Computer skills; attention to detail and accuracy; • Effective communication skills; strong customer service skills; • Ability to maintain confidentiality • Willingness to work with volunteers
